Cassandra Miller

Cassandra Miller is a Canadian-British composer based in London. Her works are published by Faber Music. Her compositional practice draws notably on improvised singing in a meditative context, as well as on the transcription and transformation of pre-existing musical material. Her major works include Duet for Cello and Orchestra (2015), Round (2016), A Large House (2009), La Donna (2021), and I cannot love without trembling (2023), a viola concerto written for Lawrence Power. She maintains a close collaboration with the Quatuor Bozzini, for whom she has composed works including Warblework and About Bach. The latter received the Jules-Léger Prize for New Chamber Music. Cassandra Miller has also been awarded a second Jules-Léger Prize for Bel Canto, as well as a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Artists. She studied at the University of Victoria, the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, and the University of Huddersfield, where she earned a doctorate. From 2018 to 2020, she served as Associate Head of Composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She has also taught and given lectures at several universities and conservatories across Europe and North America.
