Cecilia Bengolea

Born in Buenos Aires in 1979, Cecilia Bengolea develops a multidisciplinary practice combining performance, dance, video, and sculpture. She approaches the body as both an individual and collective medium, and sees dance as a form of living sculpture—a vehicle for emotional exchange and radical empathy. Deeply inspired by the energies of nature, she has collaborated with artists such as Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Jeremy Deller, and dancehall figures like Craig Black Eagle and Bombom DHQ. Together with François Chaignaud, she has created numerous pieces for their own company, as well as for the Ballet de Lyon, Ballet de Lorraine, and Tanztheater Wuppertal. Their work has received several awards, including the Prix de la Critique in Paris (2010) and the Young Artist Prize at the Gwangju Biennale (2014). Bengolea’s work has been shown at major venues and festivals including the Guggenheim Bilbao, Palais de Tokyo, Tate Modern, the Biennales of Lyon, Gwangju and São Paulo, Noor Riyadh 2024, Art Basel, Centre Pompidou, and the Bourse de Commerce, among others.
