Maria Hassabi

Maria Hassabi is an artist and choreographer. Since the early 2000s, she has developed a distinctive practice at the intersection of performance, installation, sculpture, photography, and film. Her work explores the relationship between the live body, the still image, and the sculptural object, reflecting on notions of time and the human figure through a wide range of media. Her works have been presented in numerous institutions, including Tai Kwun Contemporary (Hong Kong), LUMA Arles, OGR Turin, Secession (Vienna), MoMA (New York), Hammer Museum (Los Angeles), Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), Centre Pompidou (Paris), documenta 14 (Kassel), and the Venice Biennale (2013), among others. She has also taken part in many international festivals and biennials (Art Basel, Thailand Biennale, Performa, River to River Festival...). Recipient of several awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Bessie Award, she lives and works between Athens, New York, and Paris.
