Los Inescalables Alpes, buscando a Currito (The Unclimbable Alps, looking for Currito) is driven by a burning desire to see a person once again. The title and ensuing dance suggest an infinitesimal effort, that of overcoming the impossible. María del Mar Suárez, the Andalucian choreographer also known as La Chachi, conjures up a hybrid and deeply personal flamenco, which respects and deconstructs the tradition whilst introducing elements of krump and punk sensibility at the same time.

Onstage, our attention is focused on two musicians and a singer, up until the point when, in a fading light, we pick out the silhouette of La Chachi. From out of her firmly anchored body, spring spasmodic bouts of flamenco. The movements curl and break, and disciplines become inversed: is it a concert? A dance show? The music itself sets the scene, with La Chachi making her way towards the audience as if she was climbing the Alps, and as if the audience was witnessing her ascension from the summit. The music repeats itself, and becomes louder and louder with each cycle, like an avalanche which swallows up everything in its path, carrying us away in its stubborn refusal to achieve its goal. Los Inescalables Alpes is a deep, hypnotic show. It is a unique experience which takes this genre into new territories and affirms La Chachi’s place as one of the most captivating artists of her generation.
