Basel Abbas

Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme, both born in 1983, have formed an artist duo based in New York since 2007. Basel Abbas is a Cypriot visual artist and filmmaker, while Ruanne Abou-Rahme is an American visual artist and filmmaker. They are both of Palestinian origin. In their work, they use image, sound, text, installation, and performance to explore questions of memory, history, displacement, and resistance. Their work has been presented in numerous international institutions, including the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, Portikus, The Palestinian Museum, Kunsthalle Wien, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, and the Institute of Contemporary Arts. In 2022, they presented Oh Shining Star Testify at Hamburger Bahnhof as part of the 12th Berlin Biennale. The same year, they exhibited May amnesia never kiss us on the mouth at the Museum of Modern Art, a work addressing Palestinian loss, colonial violence, and forced migration.
