Sara Glojnarić

Sara Glojnarić is a Croatian composer based in Leipzig. Her work delves into pop culture, exploring its aesthetics, socio-political implications, collective memory, and nostalgia. She composes across various media, including opera, orchestral and chamber music, and video.Glojnarić has collaborated with leading ensembles and orchestras and received several international awards, such as the Ernst von Siemens Förderpreis (2023), Kompositionspreis der Stadt Stuttgart (2024), Erste Bank Kompositionspreis (Vienna), Kranichsteiner Musikpreis (Darmstadt, 2018), the SWR Orchesterpreis for DING, DONG, DARLING! (Donaueschinger Musiktage, 2024), and the GEMA Music Authors’ Award for emerging artists. Alongside her compositional work, she mentors young composers, emphasizing cultural theory, linguistics, translation, and intersectional queer and feminist perspectives. Her works are published by Edition Juliane Klein in Berlin.

Four female composers, take up, sixty years later, the utopic quest for continuity between the so-called popular arts and the so-called learned arts, as expressed in Luciano Berio's Folk Songs. In order to do so, they turn their attentions to sound of an impure nature, raw impulses and the sensations brought on by a tremor.
