Tianzhuo Chen

Born in 1985, Tianzhuo Chen lives in Beijing and is now regarded as one of the leading figures on the experimental art scene. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in 2009, and a Master of Fine Arts from Chelsea College of Art and Design in the UK in 2010. He has developed a hybrid practice that blends drawing, installation and performance. His work draws inspiration from, amongst other things, London’s rave culture, queer clubs, Japanese butoh, New York voguing and the world of fashion. In 2015, he founded the interdisciplinary collective ASIANDOPEBOYS, which performs at iconic venues such as Berghain in Berlin. That same year, the Palais de Tokyo hosted his first solo exhibition in France, which explored moral representations and beliefs. He regularly exhibits at international institutions, including the Kunsthalle Winterthur in Switzerland (2016) and the Kunstpavillon in Austria (2021), and collaborates with artists from various underground art scenes.
