[Visual Arts / Performance]The phonetic resemblance between the name of Marepe’s grandfather’s dog, ‘Bubu’, and ‘Beaubourg’, the quartier that is home to this epitome of a cultural centre, gave Marepe the idea of the work in the foyer: a portrait of his grandfather, juxtaposed with Vasarely’s likeness of former French president George Pompidou. The same type of free association pervades various works reflecting a magical hyperrealist vision of the world .
