Hans Abrahamsen Winternacht, Études pour piano, Schnee

[Music]

Hans Abrahamsen writes the music of transparency, an art form marked by romanticism, winter, night and daybreak, as in Winternacht, a muted initiation to a rigorous process. In Études pour piano, vibration, emotion and expression intrinsically poetic in nature are clearly structured and mirrored. While for Schnee, a cycle alluding to Johann Sebastian Bach, the work is reminiscent of the optical illusions of Escher, simultaneously moving up and down, following the focal point, an effect, as created by Abrahamsen, not spatial but temporal, depicting snow in a composition of white polyphony.
