In the wake of disarray, grief and the downward spiral comes rallying cries. Following on from Bless This Mess, the choreographers Katerina Andreou and Mélissa Guex cement their reunion in a duo that is very nearly a concert. In as close proximity to the audience as possible, their infectious energy metamorphoses anger into collective joy.
Katerina Andreou and Mélissa Guex are unrivalled in their ability to tune into the beating heart of our era, one which alternates between depression and rage. Respectively, their work has always been a space in which the resonances of these contradictory affects can be heard. Their work opens up, by means of a constant dialogue between dance music, a place of transformation, in which despondency can be put into movement once again. In their first duo piece, the choreographers draw upon their combined strengths in an attempt to respond to the current political urgency. A response in the form of voices, two voices, that cry out repeatedly, in search of both an echo and a viral-like effect. SHOUT TWICE, a nomad performance which feeds off the imaginary world conjured up by each venue that hosts it, endeavours to do away with discipline, and injunctions to temperance and silence. The two dancers improvise, relay each other, extend and amplify one other’s gestures, thereby enabling their raw energy to flow freely between their bodies. An outburst of intensity, this danced concert transcends pain into jubilation.
