The Spanish company El Conde de Torrefiel takes over the 7L library, Karl Lagerfeld’s former photography studio, for a site-specific new work. It stages, in this space, matter of a textual, visual and sound-based kind designed as a scenic study for a piece in the making.
Gravity is the underlying idea behind this project. As a force of a universal kind, it determines the interactions of individuals with the world and invites us to search, beneath the surface of what we perceive, for other realities that converge within a same space and time. Ever keen to explore the limits of the theatre stage, Tanya Beyeler and Pablo Gisbert occupy this mythical place, a haven for text and image, and turn gravity into a scenic concept which prompts the audience to direct their gaze upwards, if only to read the text projected above them. This elevation is both physical and symbolic: what we perceive is transformed by the exercise of vision itself. And the experience of it, for a small number of spectators at a time, shows us that the theatrical object is not an independent creation, but a territory which takes on a meaning of its own within a shared perception.
