Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha
Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha is a Brazilian actress, director and researcher. Since 2013, she has been developing the ‘Riverbanks Project: about rivers, buiúnas and fireflies’, an artistic research project dedicated to listening to Brazilian rivers transformed by human action. The project was conceived as a response to the Anthropocene, ‘the moment when people stopped being afraid of disasters and became disasters themselves’. The first stage of creation was inspired by the fighting on the banks of the River Araguaia, with the piece Guerrillas. The artist is also involved in the Buiúnas Network, which brings together women, rivers and art to create artistic projects on Amazonian rivers. In 2021, she presented Altamira 2042 at the Festival d'Automne and in 2023 at the Centre Pompidou, followed by Tapajós in 2025.
