Marga Alfeirão

Marga Alfeirão is a Portuguese choreographer who uses multiple media to create spaces for exploring intimacy and sexuality through dance and performance. Strongly influenced by dance forms and sonic textures emerging from African diasporas in Lisbon, she develops a body of work centred on representations of the feminine. Her creations also explore forms of sensuality shaped by a female or feminised gaze. LOUNGE (2023) received the 8:tension Young Choreographers Award. The same year, she created No Biggie Deal, a solo dedicated to The Notorious B.I.G., inspired by the media treatment of celebrity culture and nostalgia. Her first group piece, no c o r a ç ã o dela, was created in 2025 at Sophiensaele in Berlin.

In her first invitation to the Festival d’Automne, the Lisbon-based choreographer Marga Alfeirão uses dance and performance to shape so-called safe spaces. The latter invite the exploration of intimacy and sexuality. LOUNGE looks into rest as an active affirmation of femininity.
