Written in 1933 at the height of the economic crisis, Foi, Amour, Espérance (Faith, Love and Charity) still resonates today. It tells the story of Elisabeth, a woman who progressively sinks into poverty, falling victim to society’s crushing forces. The text by Ödön von Horváth is one of Christoph Marthaler’s favorite, striking a chord with his love for the misfits of all times.
