Alberto Cortés

Alberto Cortés (Málaga, 1983) is a theatre director, playwright, and performer. He holds a degree in Stage Direction and Playwriting from the ESAD of Málaga, as well as a degree in Art History from the University of Málaga (UMA). In 2009, he began his career as a director, developing a highly personal dramaturgical language that has continued to evolve over time through encounters with a range of artists who have shaped his trajectory. These collaborations have given rise to works of varying formats and disciplines, all driven by a desire to keep believing in the intangible, the spiritual, and the human. Over the years, his practice has unfolded through theatre, dance, performance, as well as popular traditions and flamenco. He also collaborates with other artists as a director and dramaturg, and leads research workshops, notably with La Chachi. In 2022, he published Los montes son tuyos, a collection bringing together the texts of his plays El Ardor and A night at the golden bar. In 2025, he was invited to France by the Festival d’Automne à Paris with his work Analfabet. His texts are published in France by Les Solitaires Intempestifs in 2026.
