The Wooster Group

Founded in 1975, The Wooster Group was a leading force in the radical, postmodernist experiments of the last quarter of the twentieth century, and has continued ever since to be a pioneer in experimental theatre and media (film, video, sound, radio). In the Wooster Group’s productions, texts – whether contemporary, classical or improvised – and technology are interwoven to invent new narrative forms. Under the direction of Elisabeth LeCompte and in collaboration with a group of artists, performers and technicians, the company has created over forty projects, including notably Rumstick Road in 1977, L.S.D. (... Just the High Points...) in 1984, Brace up in 1991, House/Lights in 1999, To You, the Birdie! (Phaedra) in 2001, Hamlet in 2006, La Didone in 2008, and Vieux Carré in 2009. The company performs in the United States, Europe, Russia, Canada, South America, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. The Performing Garage, at 33 Wooster Street in New York, is the company’s permanent home. Since 1999, they have been regular guests at the Festival d’Automne.
