Walid Raad

Born in Chbanieh, Lebanon, in 1967 to a Palestinian mother and a Lebanese father, Walid Raad lives in Beirut and New York, where he teaches at the Cooper Union art school. A visual artist who works primarily with media and new technologies, his notable works include Up to the South (1993), Missing Lebanese Wars (1996) and The Dead Weight of a Quarrel Hangs (1996–1999); he also took part in The Atlas Group Project, an exhibition at the National Galerie im Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin in 2006. His performances and installations have been presented on major international stages, such as Documenta in Kassel and the Venice Biennale. He has been invited to the Festival d’Automne on several occasions with I Feel a Great Desire to Meet the Masses Once Again (2007), *Scratching on things I could disavow: a history of Arabs in the modern world* (2010) and Les Louvres and/or Kicking the Dead (2018).
