Philippe Quesne further his thoughts into the place of art in our daily lives in the company of four performers and guests. In this new piece, inventions of the musical and the visual arts-based kind respond to the circumvolutions of Laura Vazquez's highly original poems.
Le Paradoxe de John brings back the memory of one of the director's first plays, making a diptych with it, 18 years apart. In 2007, L’effet de Serge portrayed a solitary being who organizes shows for his friends every Sunday in his flat. His miniature plays, lasting between one and three minutes, conjured up a poetic and humorous imaginary world but also a strange environment in which the solitude of the melancholic inventor coexisted with the friendship of his circle of ever-patient spectators. In this new piece, from out of this tension between obsessive quest and need for sharing emerges the ups and downs of a character who, in the company of his guests, is busy with the setting up an art gallery. From effect to paradox, what remains is the spirit of a theatre in close proximity to the audience, and which is witness to a polyphonic composition for humans and non-humans alike. The texts of the poet and novelist Laura Vazquez fully inhabit the libretto, making it the logical continuation of a collaboration that started with Fantasmagoria and Le Jardin des Délices, two pieces presented at the Festival d'Automne in 2022 and 2023.
