Jonathan Capdevielle

A graduate of the École supérieure Nationale des arts de la marionnette, Jonathan Capdevielle is a writer, director and actor. He has taken part in numerous productions as a performer and/or collaborator, notably with Gisèle Vienne, with whom he worked closely from 2000 to 2019. After creating a number of events and performances, he began developing his own work in 2009 with the solo piece Adishatz/Adieu, which blends autofiction, narratives and personal stories, drawing on mimicry and references from popular culture. He continued in this autofictional vein with the play Saga, premiered in 2015. In 2017, he presented A nous deux maintenant, an adaptation of Hector Malot’s Sans famille; in 2021, Music All, co-written with Marco Berrettini and Jérôme Marin; and in 2023, Albert Camus’s Caligula, his first production of a text written specifically for the theatre, in which he played the title role. In 2024, Camille Cottin invited him to direct and co-adapt Katarina Volkner’s The Jewish Cock. His latest play, Dainas (pronounced ‘daïnas’), an autofictional solo piece for the actor Dimitri Doré, premiered at the Arsenic in Lausanne in September 2025. Since 2017, he has been a regular guest at the Festival d’Automne; notably, he directed a production of The Fall of Caligula at the T2G in 2024.
