Charles Atlas / Merce Cunningham Ocean
[Cinema]Having directed more than twenty films with Merce Cunningham, Charles Atlas last collaborated with the choreographer when he shot Ocean (1994). On a stage swathed in darkness, evoking the depth of the ocean, dancers – grouped in pairs or in a large ensemble – seem to be shaped by marine elements. This is also Merce Cunningham’s last collaboration with John Cage.
