Boris Charmatz
Boris Charmatz is a dancer and choreographer. Trained at the École de danse de l’Opéra de Paris and later at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Lyon, he co-created his first piece with Dimitri Chamblas, À bras-le-corps (1993). He went on to create works including Aatt enen tionon (1996), enfant (2011), 10000 gestes (2017), and SOMNOLE (2021). From 2009 to 2018, he directed the Musée de la danse, Centre chorégraphique national de Rennes et de Bretagne. In 2019, he founded Terrain, a research and choreographic creation structure based in the Hauts-de-France region. His work combines creation, repertoire, transmission, and experimentation across a variety of contexts, often outside traditional dance venues. A guest of the Festival d’Automne à Paris since 1996, he notably presented 20 danseurs pour le XXe siècle (2012). In 2021, the Festival dedicated a Portrait to him, within which he created La Ronde at the Grand Palais and Happening Tempête at the Grand Palais Éphémère. From August 2022 to July 2025, he directed Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. He continues to develop his own artistic projects through his structure Terrain.
